Who Am I?

Hello, I’m Crystal Springer, a self-taught acrylic and mixed media visual artist🎨 , but my story with creativity started long before I ever picked up a paintbrush.

I grew up in a small town in Iowa, the oldest sibling of three, where life felt simple on the surface, but I was always observing more than I said out loud. I also thought deeply and was drawn to patterns, emotions, and the subtle energy in the world around me. Even then, I found myself noticing things others might pass by—the way movement carried meaning, how nature mirrored human experience, how feelings could exist without needing to be explained.

Art wasn’t something I formally studied, in fact it was just a fun little hobby. My very first job was de-tasseling corn 🌽 at the age of 14, such a stereotypical Iowa thing I am proud to own. School work came pretty easy to me, and I had a strong interest in Math and took several Art classes in high school.  When I graduated high school, I originally enrolled in a community college for Graphic Design to then change my decision before I even started to pursue Accounting. ⚖️ I figured an Accountant would be a stable career and art could always be a hobby I enjoyed.

Over time, painting became a natural extension of how I process life. I didn’t learn through rules or classrooms—I learned through curiosity, lots of videos, trial and error, and trusting my instincts. Each piece taught me something new. Each layer built not just the painting, but my confidence in my own voice. 📣

Being self-taught has allowed my work to stay honest, not focused on perfection, but focused on feeling. On capturing something real, with maybe a twist of fantasy, even if it’s hard to define.

Today, I reside in Tennessee, have two beautiful grown children, and balance a structured professional life with a deeply intuitive creative one. When I’m not painting I enjoy getting out in nature as much as possible. That contrast in my life has shaped me in ways I’m very grateful for. It’s taught me discipline, but also how important it is to create space for expression.

Everything I paint is part of that journey—of learning, of growing, and of allowing myself to be seen without needing to explain every detail.

I didn’t follow a traditional path to become an artist. I became one by listening to myself. -`♡´-
