Who Am I?

Hello, I’m Crystal Springer, a self-taught acrylic and mixed media visual artist🎨 , but my story with creativity started long before I ever picked up a paintbrush.

I grew up in a small town in Iowa, the oldest sibling of three, where life felt simple on the surface, but I was always observing more than I said out loud. I also thought deeply and was drawn to patterns, emotions, and the subtle energy in the world around me. Even then, I found myself noticing things others might pass by—the way movement carried meaning, how nature mirrored human experience, how feelings could exist without needing to be explained.

Art wasn’t something I formally studied, in fact it was just a fun little hobby. My very first job was de-tasseling corn 🌽 at the age of 14, such a stereotypical Iowa thing I am proud to own. School work came pretty easy to me, and I had a strong interest in Math and took several Art classes in high school.  When I graduated high school, I originally enrolled in a community college for Graphic Design to then change my decision before I even started to pursue Accounting. ⚖️ I figured an Accountant would be a stable career and art could always be a hobby I enjoyed.

Over time, painting became a natural extension of how I process life. I didn’t learn through rules or classrooms—I learned through curiosity, lots of videos, trial and error, and trusting my instincts. Each piece taught me something new. Each layer built not just the painting, but my confidence in my own voice. 📣

Being self-taught has allowed my work to stay honest, not focused on perfection, but focused on feeling. On capturing something real, with maybe a twist of fantasy, even if it’s hard to define.

Today, I reside in Tennessee, have two beautiful grown children, and balance a structured professional life with a deeply intuitive creative one. When I’m not painting I enjoy getting out in nature as much as possible. That contrast in my life has shaped me in ways I’m very grateful for. It’s taught me discipline, but also how important it is to create space for expression.

Everything I paint is part of that journey—of learning, of growing, and of allowing myself to be seen without needing to explain every detail.

I didn’t follow a traditional path to become an artist. I became one by listening to myself. -`♡´-

Why do I create?

As I reflect this month, my 45th birthday 🎂 is fast approaching this month and I find myself thinking about how far I am in this beautiful life I was given. For a long time, I found myself wondering what my purpose was. Like many people, I moved through life doing the things I was supposed to do—building a career, showing up for responsibilities, creating stability. But underneath it all, there was always a quiet question: What am I truly meant to do? Not what I do to make a living to pay for necessities, but what am I suppose to be putting out in this world to make a difference or make it better for someone even for a day, an hour, or a minute. My true purpose.

It wasn’t something I could force or figure out logically. Eventually and naturally, my purpose revealed itself. I found it through art. 🎨What started as a creative outlet became something much deeper. Painting gave me a way to connect—not just with myself, but with something larger. In the act of creating, I experience a kind of joy that feels both grounding and expansive, like I’m exactly where I’m meant to be in that moment. I can remain present in a painting, worries dissipates and joy emerges. And then something even more meaningful happens when I share it. Knowing that something I created can bring emotion, connection, or even a moment of peace to someone else—that’s where purpose comes to life for me. It’s not just about the finished piece, it’s about the energy it carries and the way it resonates beyond me. Art allows me to experience joy twice—once in the creation, and again in the sharing.

 That’s when I realized…

My purpose is to share, share what already flows through me naturally, and when it connects with someone else that is the most fulfilling feeling.🌱
